Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are scheduled to have brain surgery (a craniotomy) to remove a tumor located in the upper part of the brain.
  • Scans (such as an MRI) have confirmed you have a tumor in the upper part of the brain (not in the lower back part of the brain, the brainstem, or a widespread type of brain tumor).
  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You have never had a seizure or been diagnosed with epilepsy.
  • You have never taken anti-seizure (antiepileptic) medication.
  • You are in reasonably good general health and able to carry out most daily activities (confirm with trial site).
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have another brain condition as well as the tumor, such as a stroke or serious head injury.
  • You are pregnant or currently breastfeeding.
  • You have a bowel stoma (an opening on the abdomen for waste), a heart condition, have previously had brain surgery to remove a tumor, or have had an infection inside the skull.
  • You have seriously reduced liver or kidney function, based on specific blood test results (confirm with trial site).
  • You have a significant imbalance of certain minerals in your blood, such as sodium or calcium levels that are very high or very low (confirm with trial site).
  • You have a long-term history of a psychiatric disorder, alcohol dependency, or drug misuse.
  • You have a severe mental illness.
  • You are allergic to anti-seizure medications or have a medical reason you cannot take them.
  • You are unable to have an MRI scan or a brainwave (EEG) test.
  • The trial doctor has determined for any other reason that participation would not be appropriate for you.
  • You have taken part in another clinical trial for a drug or medical device in the past 3 months.
