Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 to 75 years (male or female)
- People who have been diagnosed with a specific type of epilepsy affecting one side of a deep brain region called the mesial temporal lobe
- People whose seizures have not been adequately controlled after trying at least two different seizure medications at appropriate doses
- People who have had an average of 4 or more focal seizures per 28 days over the 3 months before the screening visit
- People who have been on a stable dose of their seizure medications for at least 1 month before joining the trial
- People who are in generally good health or have other stable health conditions, with organs functioning adequately
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose epilepsy is caused by another ongoing or progressive brain disease, or people who only experience seizures with no outward signs or movements
- People who have previously had surgery for epilepsy
- People who experienced a prolonged, continuous seizure episode (sometimes called status epilepticus) within the 12 months before screening
- People who have a permanently implanted device in or on the skull or inside the brain
- People with a serious disease or significant loss of function affecting the body as a whole
- People with a weakened immune system, whether from a primary condition or another cause
- People with a history of clear suicidal thoughts, planning, or behaviour within the past year before screening
- People with severe mental health conditions
- People who have had a cancer diagnosis within the past 5 years (certain limited skin cancers or cervical carcinoma in situ that have been fully resolved may be considered — confirm with trial site)
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
