Who might be able to join this trial:
- You can be male or female
- You must be between 35 and 60 years old
- Your blood sugar control levels (measured by a test called HbA1c) must be 7.0% or higher, showing that diabetes is not fully controlled
- You must have been on a stable diabetes treatment plan for at least 3 months with no recent changes
- Your "bad" cholesterol (LDL) levels must have been above 100 mg/dL on at least two separate tests
- You must have been diagnosed with high cholesterol
- You must either have a known high risk of heart problems (for example, you have previously had a heart attack, stroke, or been diagnosed with blocked arteries), OR have 2 or more heart disease risk factors such as high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, or a family history of heart disease
- Your body weight (measured by BMI) must be between 23 and 32, using the WHO Asian measurement guidelines
- You must have no history of bad reactions or side effects from cholesterol-lowering medicines called statins
Who may not be able to join:
- Your HbA1c blood sugar level is above 10%, meaning diabetes is very poorly controlled
- Your BMI is above 32
- You have Type 1 diabetes or diabetes related to pregnancy
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have an active liver disease or your liver test results are significantly higher than normal
- You have severe kidney disease (confirm with trial site)
- You have an uncontrolled underactive thyroid or a kidney condition called nephrotic syndrome
- You have been diagnosed with cancer in the last 6 months
- You are currently taking other cholesterol-lowering medicines such as fibrates or PCSK9 inhibitors
- You have a known allergy to any ingredient in the trial treatment
- You have previously had a serious reaction to statins, such as severe muscle breakdown (a condition called rhabdomyolysis)
