Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and are managing it with lifestyle changes and/or certain diabetes tablets (such as metformin, sulfonylureas, DPP-4 inhibitors, SGLT2 inhibitors, or incretin-based medications)
- People whose blood sugar control (measured by a test called HbA1c) falls within a specific range — between 36 and 86 mmol/mol
- People who have had type 2 diabetes for 6 years or less
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27 or higher (meaning they are overweight or obese by clinical measures)
- People whose body weight has changed by no more than 3 kg over the past 3 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have used insulin (any type) in the 6 months before screening
- People with significant heart failure (where the heart pumps less than 40% of its capacity) who are currently taking or planning to take a medication from the SGLT-2 inhibitor group
- People with heart disease — including a previous heart attack or stroke — for whom incretin-based therapy and/or an SGLT-2 inhibitor has been prescribed
- People with kidney disease (based on specific kidney function and protein-in-urine test results lasting at least 3 months) who are currently taking or planning to take an SGLT-2 inhibitor
- People with a physical health condition that would prevent them from taking part in the physical activity required during the trial
- People with dietary restrictions or food allergies that would make it impossible to follow the trial's eating plan
- People who would be unable to follow the trial's procedures and requirements
- People with alcohol or drug misuse issues
- People who are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, currently undergoing fertility treatment, or of reproductive age without using contraception
- People with unstable mental health conditions that the trial team determines would make participation difficult
- People who have been diagnosed with binge eating disorder
- People who are currently taking part in, or planning to join, another clinical trial (including lifestyle or medication trials) for any health condition
- People whose HbA1c is 60 mmol/mol or higher, who are taking 2 or more diabetes medications, and who also have certain specific blood test results suggesting a different type of diabetes may be present (confirm with trial site)
