Who might be able to join this trial:

• The child has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
• The child is scheduled for a planned (non-emergency) surgical procedure
• The child is between 3 and 18 years old
• The child is considered generally healthy or has only mild health conditions, as assessed by their medical team
• A parent or legal guardian is able to provide written permission for the child to take part
• The child's caregiver is willing and able to read special story-based materials at home, as directed by the study team
• The child's caregiver is able to understand materials written in Turkish

Who may not be able to join:

• The child has serious or complex health conditions, as assessed by their medical team
• The child needs surgery urgently or in an emergency situation
• The child has a severe intellectual disability, or significant problems with their vision or hearing
• The child has had serious behavioural difficulties during a previous general anaesthetic
• The family is unable or unwilling to use the story-based materials at home throughout the study
• A parent or legal guardian is unable or unwilling to provide written permission for the child to participate
• The child is currently taking medication for a psychiatric condition alongside their ASD diagnosis
