Who might be able to join this trial:
(For providers/therapists):
- Providers who are in a lead or supervisory role, such as clinical supervisors or lead therapists, may be able to take part.
- Providers are encouraged (but not strictly required) to have a master's degree or higher, or to work as a qualifying level I or level II provider with relevant experience — the participating organization will make this decision.
(For children and caregivers):
- The child must be between 1 and 5 years old.
- The child is currently waiting for an autism (ASD) diagnosis or waiting to start treatment.
- At least one caregiver (approved by the parent) must be willing to participate.
- The family must be able to attend approximately three 30-minute sessions over 12 weeks and complete some simple questionnaires or measures before and after the study.
- The child may already be receiving some services like speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or early childhood special education — these are allowed.
- Children who are on a waiting list for more intensive therapy programs may still be eligible.
Who may not be able to join:
- Children whose challenging behaviors are considered very severe or dangerous — for example, behaviors that cause serious physical harm (such as breaking the skin, drawing blood, open wounds, or severe self-injury) to themselves or others, or that have led to an emergency room visit or hospital stay, may not be eligible (confirm with trial site).
- Children who are currently receiving intensive behavioral intervention of 10 or more hours per week are not eligible.
- If a participating caregiver is pregnant, they can still join, but some activities may be skipped if the child shows certain challenging behaviors like aggression (confirm with trial site for details).
