Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for more than 3 months but no longer than 5 years before joining the trial.
- Your blood sugar control level (called HbA1c) is between 6.5% and 10%, as measured by a lab test at your first visit.
- You have been on the highest recommended dose of metformin (a common diabetes medication) for at least 3 months without any changes, OR you have been managing your diabetes with diet and exercise only for at least 3 months without any changes.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
- You have developed complications related to diabetes.
- You are currently taking, or have taken for more than 4 weeks in the past, any diabetes medications other than metformin — including injectable treatments like insulin — unless you stopped taking them at least 3 months before the screening visit.
- Your blood pressure is too high (top number above 150 or bottom number above 100, measured three times while lying down), or you have a known history of a narrowing of the arteries that supply the kidneys (confirm with trial site).
- You have certain abnormal heart rhythm readings on an ECG (heart tracing test), a specific type of electrical problem in the heart called left bundle branch block, or you have needed treatment for a heart rhythm problem within the past 6 months (confirm with trial site).
