Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People whose X-rays (including detailed tooth X-rays) show a primary infection inside the root of a tooth
  • People who have a multi-rooted tooth where at least one root shows a lesion (an area of infection or damage) at the tip of the root
  • People diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, between the ages of 25 and 60 years old, of any gender
  • People whose fasting blood sugar level is 126 mg/dL or above, and whose random blood sugar level is below 200 mg/dL
  • People whose HbA1c (a blood test that shows average blood sugar levels over several months) is 6.5% or higher

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have other ongoing health conditions apart from Type 2 diabetes
  • People who are currently pregnant
  • People who have taken antibiotics at any point in the three months before the trial
  • People who have teeth with abnormal development, or where the inner canals of the tooth have become blocked or hardened
  • People whose affected tooth cannot be properly sealed off using a rubber dam (a small sheet used to isolate a tooth during dental treatment)
  • People whose tooth canals have an unusually twisted or curved shape
  • People whose tooth root is cracked or broken
