Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are between 50 and 70 years of age, of any gender
  • People with a body mass index (a measure of body weight relative to height) between 25 and 30
  • People with type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar control measure (HbA1c) is at or below 7%
  • People with prediabetes whose blood sugar control measure (HbA1c) is at or below 6.5%
  • People without diabetes (controls) whose blood sugar control measure (HbA1c) is at or below 5.7%
  • People who have signed the study information and consent form
  • People who have signed the data processing consent form

Who may not be able to join:

  • People taking certain cholesterol-lowering medications, including ezetimibe, fenofibrate, omega-3 fatty acids, or similar drugs that affect how the body processes fats
  • People with long-term kidney disease where kidney function has been significantly reduced for 3 months or more
  • People whose excess body weight is caused by another underlying medical condition or a genetic syndrome
  • People who are currently on insulin therapy
  • People with any ongoing or recent health conditions that the study investigators believe could affect the results (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have been hospitalised for a serious illness or major surgery within the last 6 months
  • People whose current medications have not been at a stable dose for at least 3 months
  • People who are allergic or intolerant to any ingredient in the test meal used during the study
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People who regularly drink more than 20 grams of alcohol per day (for females) or more than 30 grams per day (for males), or who are unwilling to avoid alcohol during the study preparation period
  • People who do not wish to give their consent to take part in the study
