Who might be able to join this trial:
For children:
- Children who are male, female, or non-binary, between 8 and 12 years old
- Children who have a confirmed diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Children who also have a confirmed diagnosis of an intellectual disability
- Children who can speak English fluently
- Children who are able to speak in flexible phrases or more complex sentences
- Children who have been assessed as having significant difficulties managing their emotions
- Children who are available to attend two 90-minute sessions per week
- Families who are willing to keep the child's psychiatric medications and any outside behaviour support programs the same during the trial
- A parent, guardian, or legal representative must provide written consent on behalf of the child
For caregivers:
- Caregivers who are 18 years of age or older
- Caregivers who live with and care for their child with ASD and an intellectual disability for more than half of the year
- Caregivers who can speak English fluently
- Caregivers who are available to attend two 90-minute sessions per week, including one online session each week
Who may not be able to join:
For children:
- Children who have started a new mental health or behaviour support program within the 30 days before the trial begins
- Children who have physically hurt a peer outside the home (not a sibling) within the 30 days before screening — other significant behavioural concerns will be reviewed individually by the study team (confirm with trial site)
- Children who have another serious psychiatric condition that would need a different type of treatment
- Children who have a major sensory impairment, such as blindness or uncorrected hearing loss, that would limit their ability to take part in the sessions
For caregivers:
