Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children between the ages of 6 and 15 years old
- Able to swallow capsules
- Already scheduled to have a diagnostic camera examination of the digestive tract at Tampere University
- Has never previously been treated with oral vancomycin (a type of antibiotic)
- Does not currently have an active infection (such as a C. difficile bacterial infection or similar)
- Has not started any new medications or new standard treatments for their bowel disease in the 4 weeks before joining the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- Has a liver condition called PSC (primary sclerosing cholangitis) but does not also have ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease (confirm with trial site)
- Children under 6 years of age
- Unable to swallow capsules
- Has previously had an allergic reaction to vancomycin or similar types of antibiotics
- Has a cancer diagnosis or may need a liver transplant within the next 12 months
- Is pregnant
- Has known kidney problems or long-term kidney disease
