Who might be able to join this trial:
For people with cancer:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People with a laboratory-confirmed diagnosis of advanced gastric (stomach), colorectal, breast, cervical, or head-and-neck cancer that has either spread to other parts of the body or cannot be removed by surgery
- People whose doctor considers them a candidate for first-line immunotherapy (the first type of immune-based treatment given) based on current medical guidelines
- People who have a stored tumour tissue sample available at a hospital or pathology laboratory
- People who are able to provide saliva and stool (bowel) samples at the start of the trial and at follow-up appointments
- People who are generally well enough to carry out daily activities within the limits set by the trial, and who are expected to live for more than 3 months
- People who have the mental capacity to agree to participate and who have signed the required consent forms
For healthy volunteers (people without cancer):
- People with no previous cancer diagnosis
- People without an active autoimmune disease or inflammatory bowel disease
- People who have not used antibiotics, had invasive dental procedures, or taken immune-suppressing or steroid medications in the past 3 months, and who do not have severe active gum disease
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have taken systemic (whole-body) antibiotics in the past 3 months, unless it was a short course of fewer than 5 days for a minor infection
- People who have taken probiotic or prebiotic supplements within the past 30 days
- People who have taken proton-pump inhibitors (medications that reduce stomach acid) continuously for more than 3 months
- People who have inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis) or who have had a large portion of their bowel surgically removed
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whose body weight falls outside a certain range — specifically, those with a BMI below 18.5 or above 40
- People with poorly controlled diabetes, indicated by a blood sugar measure (HbA1c) at or above 9% in the past 3 months
- People who have had an invasive dental procedure in the past 3 months
- People with cancer who are already taking part in a separate randomised trial of an experimental immunotherapy that has not been approved by the Colombian regulatory authority (INVIMA), or whose stored tumour tissue sample does not meet the quality requirements for the trial
- People who cannot commit to 12 months of follow-up appointments
