Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with LAM (lymphangioleiomyomatosis) based on a lung biopsy
- Your chest X-ray and/or CT scan shows signs that are consistent with LAM
- You have both TSC (tuberous sclerosis complex) and LAM affecting the lungs
- You are a healthy non-smoker (defined as not having smoked for at least 1 year and having no lung or body-wide illness) — for the control group
- You are a healthy smoker (defined as having smoked for at least 1 year but having no lung or body-wide illness, a normal chest X-ray, and normal lung function tests) — possibly included as a control group participant if needed
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding and may still join, though certain tests will not be done during pregnancy or while nursing (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- You are under 16 years old
- You have a serious or advanced illness (lung-related or otherwise) where the study procedures are considered to carry significant risk, even if there is no clear medical reason to avoid the procedures
- You use continuous (ongoing) oxygen therapy — this would prevent you from taking part in the formal exercise test and stress echocardiogram portions of the study (though a simpler exercise test related to daily activities may still be possible)
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, certain procedures will be postponed until after pregnancy and nursing — these include lung function tests, the six-minute walk test, bronchoscopy, chest X-ray, CT scan, MRI, bone density scan, and certain other imaging tests (confirm with trial site)
