Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who need diagnostic or treatment procedures for non-cancerous or cancerous conditions of the mouth or throat area, including tumours of the tongue, tongue base, tonsils, palate, parts of the throat, or the voice box (larynx)
- People whose mouth and throat can be opened wide enough to allow the robotic surgical instruments to be used
- People who are able to provide written consent, or for whom the overseeing ethics board has approved a consent waiver
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have an unexplained fever or an active, untreated infection
- People who are pregnant
- People who have had previous head or neck surgery that would prevent a robotic or through-the-mouth procedure from being performed — this is decided by the treating doctor on a case-by-case basis (note: this restriction does not apply to participants in the non-surgical part of the trial)
- People who have medical conditions that make general anaesthesia or through-the-mouth surgical approaches unsafe
- People who are unable to give informed consent
- People for whom, during the procedure itself, the surgeon cannot get a clear enough view of the anatomy to safely carry out the surgical approach through the mouth (confirm with trial site)
