Who might be able to join this trial:
Please note: Strata I, II, and III are now closed to new participants. Only Stratum IV is still accepting new medical record submissions.
Stratum IV – People who developed heart problems after cancer treatment:
- People who were diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21, received chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment, achieved remission, and remained alive for at least one year after completing cancer treatment
- People who have echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) images — in a specific digital format called DICOM — taken both during and after cancer treatment, and that these images (not just reports) are available
- People whose heart scans showed reduced heart function (specific measurements below normal levels) on at least two separate occasions, with at least one measurement taken after cancer treatment ended, and not during a serious infection
- People whose heart scans showed reduced function on only one occasion (after cancer treatment, and not during a serious infection) may also be considered, provided they were subsequently placed on ongoing heart medication for at least 6 months (confirm with trial site)
- All participants must meet the requirements set by their institution, the FDA, and the National Cancer Institute for participation in human research studies
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known history of congenital (present from birth) heart disease — though a patent foramen ovale (a common minor heart variation) does not disqualify someone
- People who have an underlying genetic condition known to affect heart development or heart health (for example, Down syndrome)
- People whose only available echocardiogram records are on VHS tape, or where only written reports exist without the actual digital images
