Who might be able to join this trial:

Group 1 – Breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy:

• You have been newly diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, confirmed by a tissue test (biopsy)
• Your treatment plan includes chemotherapy
• You are a woman aged 60 or older
• Your doctors expect you to live at least 1 more year
• You are generally healthy enough to carry out normal daily activities without significant difficulty (confirm with trial site regarding the specific health score required)
• You are able to understand the study and are willing to sign a consent form

Group 2 – Breast cancer patients NOT receiving chemotherapy:

• You have been newly diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, confirmed by a tissue test (biopsy)
• Your treatment plan does NOT include chemotherapy
• You are aged 60 or older
• Your doctors expect you to live at least 1 more year
• You are generally healthy enough to carry out normal daily activities without significant difficulty (confirm with trial site)
• You are able to understand the study and are willing to sign a consent form

Group 3 – Healthy volunteers (no cancer):

• You are aged 60 or older and do not have breast cancer
• Your doctors expect you to live at least 1 more year
• You are generally healthy enough to carry out normal daily activities without significant difficulty (confirm with trial site)
• You are able to understand the study and are willing to sign a consent form
• You may still be eligible if you have well-managed conditions such as treated high blood pressure, treated high cholesterol, or well-controlled Type 2 diabetes
• If you are a woman who could still become pregnant, you will need a blood pregnancy test before any imaging begins, and it must come back negative

Who may not be able to join:

• You have cancer that has spread to the brain or spinal cord, either found by a doctor or on a scan
• You scored below 24 on a standard memory and thinking test called the MMSE
• You have been diagnosed with a serious mental health condition such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or severe depression earlier in life, or you have had electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) — though mild, well-treated depression on a stable antidepressant may be allowed (confirm with trial site)
• You have had a problem with alcohol or drug misuse in the past 2 years
• You have Huntington's disease, fluid build-up in the brain (hydrocephalus), or a seizure disorder
• You cannot have an MRI scan — for example, because you have a pacemaker, metal implants, a brain shunt, artificial heart valves, ear implants, metal in your eyes, or because you experience severe claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
• You have had an eye injury involving metal and do not have an X-ray confirming the metal was fully removed
