Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older.
- You have been diagnosed with a non-infectious form of uveitis (inflammation in the middle, back, or throughout the eye — not the front only).
- Your eye inflammation is still active despite taking steroid tablets (such as prednisone at 10 mg per day or equivalent) for at least 2 weeks, shown by specific signs in at least one eye (confirm with trial site).
- You have previously responded well to steroid tablets at standard doses.
- Your steroid dose has stayed the same for at least 14 days before starting the trial.
- Your other immune-suppressing medications have not been increased in the past 3 months.
- You have had a negative tuberculosis (TB) skin test (PPD test), OR you have had a positive TB skin test but are currently receiving treatment for TB.
Who may not be able to join:
- Your uveitis affects only the front part of the eye (anterior uveitis only).
- Your uveitis is caused by an infection, such as TB, cytomegalovirus, Lyme disease, toxoplasmosis, or herpes simplex virus.
- You have a specific eye condition called serpiginous choroidopathy.
- You have cloudiness in the cornea or lens that blocks a clear view of the back of the eye, or that is likely to need cataract surgery during the trial.
- You have cloudiness in the cornea or lens that prevents proper assessment of your eye inflammation.
- You have high eye pressure (25 mmHg or above) that cannot be controlled even with maximum treatment.
- You have a type of uveitis in the middle of the eye and have symptoms or brain scan findings that suggest a condition affecting the nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis (confirm with trial site).
- You have received a steroid eye implant (such as Retisert® or Ozurdex) within the past 6 months.
- You have received steroid injections into or around the eye, or methotrexate injections into the eye, within the past 90 days.
- You have a serious form of diabetic eye disease.
- You have the "wet" (neovascular) form of age-related macular degeneration.
- You have a structural problem at the back of the eye (such as scar tissue on the retina) that could cause damage to your vision independently of the inflammation.
- You have a systemic (whole-body) inflammatory disease that requires additional immune-suppressing medication at the time of joining the study.
- You have a history of active or latent TB (confirmed by a skin test and chest X-ray) and are not currently receiving TB treatment.
