Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are adults (aged 18 to 85) having endoscopic (keyhole, through the nose) surgery to remove a pituitary tumour, specifically a non-functioning adenoma, acromegaly-related tumour, or prolactinoma
- People who speak English and are able to understand and complete two specific questionnaires used in the study (the ASK Nasal-12 and SNOT-22)
- People who are free from any physical, mental, or medical condition that the trial investigators consider would make participation unsafe or unsuitable
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to, or cannot tolerate, the study medications
- People with cirrhosis (serious liver scarring) or hepatitis (liver inflammation)
- People who have received a solid organ transplant (such as a kidney or heart) or a bone marrow transplant, or who are considered by the investigators to have a weakened immune system
- People whose kidneys have failed and who are on dialysis
- People who are unwilling or unable to sign the consent form for the study
- People who are pregnant
- People who are currently incarcerated
- People with Cushing's disease (a condition caused by too much cortisol)
- People with a Rathke's Cleft cyst or a pituitary cyst
- People with a history of chronic sinusitis (long-term sinus inflammation)
- People for whom nasal splints are planned to be used during surgery
- People for whom a nasal septal flap procedure is planned during surgery
- People with a currently active sinus infection
- People who have nasal polyps (soft growths inside the nose)
- People who have had previous sinus surgery
- People currently taking antibiotics for another condition (such as a urinary tract infection)
- People with an immunodeficiency (a condition that weakens the immune system)
