Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have a brain tumor (either non-cancerous or cancerous) that has been confirmed by biopsy, or in some cases diagnosed through scans and clinical assessment without a biopsy, where radiation treatment is considered appropriate without one — common examples include low-grade glioma, pituitary adenoma, acoustic neuroma, and meningioma, among others (confirm with trial site for other tumor types)
- People who have been recommended proton radiation therapy as part of their treatment plan
- People aged 18 years or older
- People whose general health and ability to function meets a minimum threshold score on a standard medical scale (called the Karnofsky scale, score of 60 or above — confirm with trial site)
- People who have previously had surgery and/or chemotherapy in any amount
- People who are able to speak and understand English
- People who are willing and able to read and sign a consent form
- People with a life expectancy of at least 6 months
- Women who could become pregnant, and men, who agree to use reliable contraception (hormonal, barrier methods, or abstinence) before, during, and for 4 months after treatment — and who agree to inform their treating doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs or is suspected during that period
Who may not be able to join:
- People with serious uncontrolled health conditions at the time of enrolment, such as an active infection, severe heart failure, unstable chest pain, irregular heart rhythms, or mental health or personal circumstances that would make it difficult to follow the study requirements
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, as radiation is known to carry serious risks to a developing baby or infant
- People who have a history of another cancer, unless they have been free of that cancer for at least 3 years and are considered low-risk for it returning — with the exception that people diagnosed and treated within the past 3 years for cervical cancer in situ, or basal cell or squamous cell skin cancer, may still be considered eligible
