Who might be able to join this trial:

  • African American women between the ages of 21 and 75 years old
  • Women who are overweight or obese, meaning a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or higher

  • Women who have had a heart attack in the past year, been diagnosed with blocked heart arteries, had a heart stent placed in the past year, or have a serious structural heart problem with signs that it is not well controlled
  • Women who are currently pregnant (women of childbearing age will be asked to self-report that they are not pregnant at several points during the study, unless they have gone through menopause, had their tubes tied, or had a complete hysterectomy)

Regarding the optional MRI tests:

  • Women who have certain metal objects or devices inside their body — such as a pacemaker, cochlear implant, or brain aneurysm clip — may still be able to join the main study but would not be eligible to take part in the optional MRI portion of the study (confirm with trial site)
