Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are male
  • People who are 50 years of age or older
  • People who have a minimally invasive chest surgery planned, such as a wedge resection, segmentectomy, lobectomy, pleural biopsy, or pleurodesis
  • People whose surgery is scheduled more than 3 days after the time of signing consent

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are already taking Flomax (tamsulosin)
  • People who have a known allergy to Flomax or sulfa drugs
  • People who are currently taking medications known as alpha blockers or alpha agonists
  • People whose resting systolic (top number) blood pressure is below 100
  • People who experience a significant drop in blood pressure when moving from sitting to standing — specifically a drop of more than 20 mmHg in the top number or more than 10 mmHg in the bottom number after standing for 2 minutes, as measured at the time of consent
  • People who have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure or a heart valve disease
  • People who have had previous prostate surgery, such as a prostatectomy or trans-urethral resection (TURP)
