Who might be able to join this trial:
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 35 or higher (a measure of body weight relative to height)
- You have been diagnosed with either early-stage (Grade 1) uterine cancer of a specific type (endometrioid endometrial cancer) or a pre-cancerous condition of the uterine lining called complex atypical hyperplasia
- Imaging scans (MRI or CT) show the cancer has not spread outside the uterus
- You are generally well enough to carry out light activity and care for yourself (confirm with trial site)
- You wish to preserve your ability to have children in the future
- You are able to safely use a hormone-releasing coil (IUD) placed in the uterus
- You have signed the official consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- Scans show the cancer has grown into the uterine wall or spread beyond the uterus
- You have a more aggressive type of uterine cancer (high grade or p53 type)
- You have a history of another cancer, unless it was fully treated with no signs of return for more than 5 years
- You have previously had major surgery on the upper abdomen, such as weight-loss (bariatric) surgery, removal of the spleen, partial stomach removal, or bowel or liver surgery (note: appendix removal, gallbladder removal, hernia repair, and caesarean sections are acceptable)
- You are currently taking weight-loss medication (note: people taking GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic specifically for diabetes treatment are not excluded)
- You have medical reasons that make a type of weight-loss surgery called sleeve gastrectomy unsafe for you
- You have a serious medical condition that is affecting how a major organ (such as the heart, kidneys, or liver) is working
- You are unable to understand or take part in the consent process
- You are currently pregnant
- You have smoked in the last 6 months
- You are currently struggling with a substance use disorder (such as alcohol or drug dependency)
- You currently have an untreated or severe mental health condition
