Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 70 years of age
- People who are willing and able to sign a written consent form
- People who are currently on a kidney transplant waiting list at one of the participating hospitals, with their transplant expected to happen between 3 and 24 months after the first vaccine dose in the study
- People who are either eligible to receive the Shingrix (shingles) vaccine at the start of the study according to CDC guidelines, or who already completed the full Shingrix vaccine series between 3 and 24 months before joining the study
- Female participants who cannot become pregnant (for example, due to tubal ligation, hysterectomy, removal of ovaries, or having gone through menopause at least 12 months ago)
- Female participants who could become pregnant, provided they have used reliable contraception for at least 30 days before vaccination, have a negative pregnancy test on each vaccination day, and agree to continue using reliable contraception throughout the study and for 2 months after the last vaccine dose
- People who the study doctor believes are likely to follow the study requirements
Who may not be able to join:
- People with an active condition that weakens the immune system (such as certain cancers or HIV), or who have received immune-suppressing medication within the 3 months before the planned vaccination, if the study doctor believes this could affect how the vaccine works
- People who have had shingles within the past 3 years
- People who have received a chickenpox (varicella) vaccine within the 3 years before joining the study
- People with a known allergy to any ingredient in the Shingrix vaccine
- People who have taken part in another experimental drug study within 30 days before enrolling, or who plan to do so during this study
- People who have received a non-live vaccine within 2 weeks before any Shingrix dose, or who plan to receive one within 30 days after a Shingrix dose
- People who have received a live vaccine within 4 weeks before any Shingrix dose, or who plan to receive one within 30 days after a Shingrix dose
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are planning to receive, or have previously received, a transplant of more than one organ
- People who live or would need to travel more than 2 hours to reach the study site, if this would make it difficult to attend study visits or have blood samples processed in time
