Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adult survivors of oropharyngeal cancer (for the clinical trial) or head and neck cancer (for the registry) who currently show no signs of cancer.
- People who finished radiation treatment at least 2 years ago, confirmed through scans and medical check-ups.
- People who have developed nerve damage affecting the tongue and/or swallowing — a late side effect of radiation — where scans, physical examination, or biopsy have ruled out a structural or cancer-related cause.
- People who are willing and able to return for a follow-up assessment after steroid treatment (clinical trial only).
- People who are able to complete a symptom survey in one of the supported languages: English, simplified Chinese, Filipino, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, or Taiwanese.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with diabetes that is not well controlled.
- People with high blood pressure that is not well controlled (specifically, a top number above 160 or a bottom number above 90).
- People with a known stomach or intestinal ulcer.
- People with a history of psychosis (a condition involving a break from reality).
- People who are pregnant.
- People who have a narrowing or blockage in the throat or food pipe that has not been treated or has not responded to treatment.
- People with a known history or diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
- People who have had surgery near the nerve pathway under the tongue (clinical trial only) (confirm with trial site).
