For Healthy Controls:

You are between 3 and 50 years old and do not have a serious health condition
You are able to have an MRI scan while awake, without needing sedation
You are not currently pregnant
You do not have a significant or severe mental health diagnosis (confirm with trial site)
You have never been diagnosed with epilepsy
You have never had a stroke or a condition affecting the blood vessels in the brain
You may get occasional headaches, as long as you are not taking a daily medication to prevent them

You are between 3 and 50 years old and have been diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia (Hb SS) or a related type called SBeta-thalassemia
You are able to have an MRI scan while awake, without needing sedation
You are not currently pregnant
You are not taking medications that widen blood vessels, such as sildenafil or verapamil

For people who have survived ECMO (a type of life support machine):

You are between 3 and 50 years old and have previously been connected to an ECMO machine
You are able to have an MRI scan while awake, without needing sedation
You are not currently pregnant
You are not taking medications that widen blood vessels, such as sildenafil or verapamil

Who may not be able to join:

Anyone under 3 or over 50 years old
Anyone who needs sedation in order to have an MRI scan
Anyone who is currently pregnant
