Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are currently receiving hemodialysis (kidney dialysis treatment)
- People whose average blood pressure reading before dialysis is above 140 mmHg (the top number) over a 2-week period, OR whose average blood pressure reading after dialysis is above 130 mmHg over a 2-week period
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have been on hemodialysis for less than 2 months
- People who are pregnant
- People whose lowest average blood pressure reading dropped below 95 mmHg (the top number) during the 2-week screening period
- People whose average blood pressure reading before or after dialysis is above 180 mmHg (the top number)
- People whose blood pressure regularly drops by more than 60 mmHg from the start to the end of a dialysis session
- People who routinely take a medication called clonidine during their dialysis sessions
- People who routinely take a medication called midodrine during their dialysis sessions
- People who have a documented history of not taking their blood pressure medications as prescribed
- People whose fluid removal rate during dialysis averaged more than 13 mL per kilogram of body weight per hour during the 2-week screening period
- For the body fluid measurement part of the study only: people who have had a major limb amputation, people who have an implanted heart device such as a defibrillator or pacemaker, or people who have a metal implant such as a prosthetic joint (confirm with trial site)
