Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with a specific type of thyroid cancer called differentiated thyroid cancer (either papillary, follicular, or Hürthle cell type) that is considered "intermediate risk," based on how far it has spread and its characteristics
  • Your cancer does not have certain aggressive features, and if it is the follicular type, it has fewer than 4 spots of blood vessel involvement
  • Your tumor and any affected lymph nodes meet specific size and spread criteria set by your doctors (confirm with trial site)
  • You have had your entire thyroid removed, with the surgeon believing all visible cancer was taken out, with or without removal of nearby lymph nodes
  • Your thyroid was removed between 6 and 14 weeks before joining the trial
  • You have no known spread of cancer to distant parts of the body
  • Your post-surgery neck ultrasound showed no concerning signs, or if it was unclear, follow-up tests came back normal
  • You have been taking thyroid hormone replacement medication (LT4) for at least 6 weeks before joining the trial
  • You are generally well enough to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation (Performance Status 0 or 1)
  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You are willing and able to be followed up once a year for 5 years
  • You are enrolled in the French social security system
  • You have signed a form agreeing to take part in the trial

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a different type of thyroid cancer, such as medullary, anaplastic, or poorly differentiated thyroid cancer
  • You have a papillary thyroid cancer with aggressive features (such as tall cell, columnar cell, diffuse sclerosing, or hobnail types)
  • You have a non-cancerous thyroid condition called NIFTP
  • Your cancer is considered low-risk or high-risk (rather than intermediate-risk), or your intermediate-risk cancer has spread into the muscles around the thyroid, or has certain lymph node features that fall outside the trial's specific criteria (confirm with trial site)
  • You only had part of your thyroid removed (lobectomy)
  • Your surgery was considered incomplete, meaning visible cancer was left behind
  • Your post-surgery neck ultrasound showed cancer in lymph nodes, confirmed by further testing
  • You have taken medications that affect thyroid function, including iodine-based dyes used in scans, within the 6 weeks before joining the trial
  • You have taken a heart medication called amiodarone within the past year
  • You have previously had radioactive iodine treatment for thyroid cancer
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have had another cancer in the past 3 years (some exceptions may apply for certain skin cancers or treated cancers with no signs of return — confirm with trial site)
  • You are unable to fully participate due to geographic, social, or psychological circumstances
  • You are legally under guardianship or have restricted personal freedom
