Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 50 or older who are able to walk (with or without a walking aid) and have been diagnosed with moderate-to-severe chronic kidney disease (stages 3 or 4, not yet on dialysis), based on a specific kidney function measurement
- People aged 50 or older who are able to walk and have no known kidney disease, with a normal kidney function result recorded in the last 12 months (this group serves as a comparison group in the trial)

Who may not be able to join:
- People who have been diagnosed with sudden or acute kidney failure or injury within the last 12 months
- People who are not able to walk at all, even with a walking aid
- People whose main place of kidney care is not the DC VA Medical Center (confirm with trial site)
- People with uncontrolled heart or blood vessel conditions
- People with uncontrolled bone, muscle, or joint disease
- People with any other health condition that the lead researcher believes could make participation unsafe
- People with joint or bone pain that would prevent safe participation in the study activities
- People who plan to move away from the Washington DC metro area within one year may not be eligible for the treatment part of the trial
