Who might be able to join this trial:
For people with rheumatic conditions:
- You are 18 years old or older and have been diagnosed with a rheumatic autoimmune disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, scleroderma, or a similar condition (a fuller list can be confirmed with the trial site)
- You currently receive your care at a Yale Rheumatology clinic
For healthy volunteers:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You do not have any ongoing skin conditions
- You have not been diagnosed with a rheumatic autoimmune disease such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
- You have a normal body weight range (BMI) (confirm with trial site for exact definition)
Who may not be able to join:
For people with rheumatic conditions:
- You are not able to give your own informed consent to participate
- If you are currently pregnant, you would need to wait until after giving birth before taking part in the skin biopsy portion of the study
- If you are allergic to lidocaine or epinephrine, or have a history of wounds that heal poorly, you would not be able to take part in the skin biopsy portion
For healthy volunteers:
- You are not able to give your own informed consent to participate
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding (unless the study is specifically focused on pregnant or nursing individuals)
- You are allergic to lidocaine or epinephrine
- You have a history of wounds that heal poorly
