Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been newly diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (a type of head and neck cancer) confirmed by a tissue sample, specifically WHO types II or III
  • People of any gender aged between 18 and 65 years old
  • People who have a good general level of physical functioning, as measured by a standard performance scale (KPS score of 80 or above)
  • People whose cancer is classified as stage III or IVa according to the international cancer staging system (AJCC/UICC 8th edition)
  • People without significant diseases of the digestive system, or significant nutritional, metabolic, or hormonal conditions
  • People without significant heart, lung, kidney, or liver disease
  • People who have not previously received radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or any other cancer treatment
  • People whose blood test results show healthy levels of white blood cells, red blood cells (haemoglobin), and platelets within the ranges required by the trial
  • People whose liver function blood tests are within acceptable ranges (below 2.5 times the upper limit of normal)
  • People whose kidney function tests are within acceptable ranges
  • People who have no medical reasons preventing them from safely receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy
  • People who have given their written informed consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have medical reasons that prevent the placement of a feeding tube directly into the stomach or small intestine — for example, blood clotting problems, recent use of blood thinners or aspirin, stomach ulcers or a history of stomach bleeding, certain complications related to liver disease, or specific stomach anatomy resulting from prior major stomach surgery
  • People whose cancer has spread to distant parts of the body (metastatic disease)
  • People who have had, or currently have, another type of cancer
  • People who are already participating in another clinical trial
  • People with drug or alcohol dependency
  • People who do not have full legal capacity to make decisions for themselves
  • People with a mental health disorder
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People with serious additional health conditions that are not well controlled, such as uncontrolled high blood pressure
