Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have chosen to undergo a type of internal radiation treatment (interstitial brachytherapy) as part of their standard care for kidney cancer
• People whose kidney cancer has been confirmed by a biopsy
• People whose cancer has not spread to nearby lymph nodes, nearby blood vessels, or other parts of the body
• People whose kidney tumor measures between 4 and 10 cm at its largest point
• People who are not suitable candidates for surgery to remove the cancer, either because surgery is not medically possible or because they have chosen not to pursue it
• People whose tumor cannot be reliably treated with heat- or cold-based destruction techniques (such as ablation)
• People whose entire tumor a radiation specialist has determined can be adequately treated with brachytherapy
• People whose tumor is mostly solid (roughly more than 80% solid tissue)
• People whose tumor has been monitored for at least 6 months and has shown a growth rate expected to be at least 4 mm per year, measured using the same imaging method throughout
• People whose kidney tumor is positioned in a way that allows needle-based access through the skin for the brachytherapy procedure (confirm with trial site)
• People with a hemoglobin blood level above 9 (a measure of red blood cells)
• People with an adequate level of infection-fighting white blood cells (ANC at or above 1,500 per microliter)
• People with a platelet count at or above 100,000 per microliter (platelets help blood to clot)
• People with liver enzyme levels (AST and ALT) within an acceptable range (no more than 3 times the upper limit of normal)
• People with a total bilirubin level within the normal range (a measure of liver function)
• People with a functioning immune system
• People with kidneys that are filtering at an adequate rate (eGFR of 30 or above)
• People with a good general level of physical functioning (ECOG performance score below 2, meaning able to carry out most daily activities)

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have another active cancer (other than kidney cancer) that is currently untreated
• People with serious uncontrolled health conditions, including active infections, uncontrolled high blood pressure, irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, or a heart attack within the past 6 months
• People with a history of abnormal bleeding disorders or a recent significant bleeding episode
• People who need urgent treatment for their kidney cancer due to bleeding, severe pain, or related health complications
• People who have previously had surgery or radiation therapy at or near the area of the kidney being treated
• People who are not willing to attend regular check-ups, blood tests, or imaging scans as required by the trial
