Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who attend NHS Lothian inpatient or outpatient services and are considered to be at increased risk of cardiovascular disease (heart and blood vessel problems)
- People who have chronic kidney disease (long-term reduced kidney function), as classified by an established medical guideline called K/DOQI
- People who have had a sudden, short-term loss of kidney function (called acute kidney injury), as classified by a guideline called KDIGO

- People who have received a kidney transplant
- People who have donated a kidney
- Healthy volunteers from the general community (as a comparison group)
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age or over 90 years of age
