Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 50 years or older and under 90 years old
  • People who have been diagnosed before surgery with a type of bladder cancer that has not grown into the muscle wall (known as non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, stages Ta to T1)
  • People who are scheduled to have a procedure to remove a bladder tumour through the urethra (a minimally invasive surgical procedure)
  • People who agree to take part and sign a written consent form

  • People who do not wish to participate
  • People who need emergency surgery
  • People who also have another type of cancer at the same time
  • People who have used a class of sedative or anxiety medications called benzodiazepines within the week before surgery, if that use occurred in the last month before the operation
  • People who have a history of schizophrenia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, or a muscle weakness condition called myasthenia gravis
  • People who are unable to communicate before surgery due to being in a coma, having severe dementia, a language barrier, or being in the final stages of a serious illness
  • People who are critically ill, have severe liver disease, or have severe kidney disease requiring dialysis before surgery (confirm with trial site for exact definitions)
  • People whose surgery is intended only to help make a diagnosis, or where the surgical team has determined before the operation that the tumour cannot be fully removed
