Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People with a specific stage of cancer in the throat (back of mouth/tonsil area) or from an unknown starting point in the head and neck, based on a standard staging system used by doctors (confirm with trial site)
- People whose cancer has been confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy) as a type called squamous cell carcinoma, located in the oropharynx (back of the throat) or with no identified primary site
- People who have not had any previous cancer treatment
- People with no signs that the cancer has spread to distant parts of the body
- People whose cancer tests strongly positive for a protein called p16, which is measured in the lab from the biopsy sample
- People who are planned to receive full, active cancer treatment (not just palliative or symptom management)
- People who are in good general health and able to carry out normal daily activities with little or no limitation (as rated by a standard medical scale)
- People who are able to follow the treatment plan and attend all required follow-up appointments
- People who have given written consent to participate in the study before it begins
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously received radiation therapy to the head or neck area
- People who have a prior history of head or neck cancer
- People whose pre-treatment tissue sample is not sufficient for the genetic analysis required by the trial
