Who might be able to join this trial:
Group 1 (Genetic obesity):
- Adults aged 18 or older with a BMI over 35, OR children under 18 with a very high BMI for their age and sex, who are being seen at one of the participating clinics
- Patients who are already receiving genetic testing as part of their normal medical care, because they have obesity that started before age 12, a very high BMI (over 50), unusual eating behaviours, hormone-related problems, or other signs that may suggest a genetic cause (such as intellectual disability or eye problems)
- The patient themselves (if an adult), or a parent/guardian (if the patient is a child), must have received information about the study and signed a consent form agreeing to take part — or, for adults who cannot consent for themselves, their legal representative or a close person must have agreed on their behalf
Group 2 (Obesity caused by brain damage):
- Adults or children who have obesity and/or eating disorders caused by damage to a part of the brain called the hypothalamus (for example, due to a tumour called a craniopharyngioma)
- The patient themselves (if an adult), or a parent/guardian (if the patient is a child), must have received information about the study and signed a consent form — or, for adults who cannot consent for themselves, their legal representative or a close person must have agreed on their behalf
Who may not be able to join:
- People who do not wish to take part in the study
- People who do not speak or understand French
- People excluded for safety reasons (confirm with trial site)
