Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been seen at a medico-psychological emergency unit
- People who have been diagnosed with acute stress disorder according to the DSM-5 (a standard medical classification system)
- People who experienced or witnessed a potentially traumatic event between 3 and 15 days ago
- People who are able to read and write in French
- People who are covered by a social security scheme (confirm with trial site)
- People who agree to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a breathing or lung condition that would prevent them from doing a breathing-based relaxation exercise called cardiac coherence training
- People who are currently practising, or have practised in the last 6 months, a regular technique that involves controlling their breathing
- People who are taking certain medications, including beta-blockers, betamimetics, anti-arrhythmic drugs, opioids, or antidepressants
- People who have a pacemaker or a serious heart condition
- People who have a psychiatric condition that is not currently stable
- People who are taking benzodiazepines (a type of medication) and are not able to gradually stop taking them in the week after joining the trial
- People who have a problem with addiction
- People who have a cognitive impairment (difficulties with thinking, memory, or understanding)
- People who are under legal guardianship, curatorship, or judicial supervision
