HYPERTENSION GROUP

Who might be able to join this trial:

• Children and teenagers between 7 and 18 years old at the time of joining.
• Those who have recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure that has no known underlying cause, and who have been referred to a hypertension or kidney specialist clinic — for children under 13, this means blood pressure at or above a certain level for their age and size; for those 13 and older, this means blood pressure at or above 130/80 mmHg (confirm exact thresholds with trial site).
• The child and their caregiver must both be willing and able to attend and complete all study visits and assessments.

Who may not be able to join:

• Children younger than 7 or older than 18 at the time of joining.
• Those whose blood pressure has been confirmed as normal or only mildly elevated (but not high enough to meet the hypertension threshold) across three or more separate clinic visits.
• Those whose high blood pressure has a confirmed underlying medical cause (such as a kidney or hormonal condition).
• Those with certain other serious health conditions, such as heart disease, kidney disease (except for specific heart or kidney changes caused by high blood pressure), blood vessel or inflammatory disease, or diabetes.
• Those who would be unable to complete the study assessments.
• Those who do not speak English or Spanish.
• Those who are currently pregnant.
• Those who are a Ward of the State (a child under government guardianship).

CONTROL (NORMAL BLOOD PRESSURE) GROUP

Who might be able to join this trial:

• Children and teenagers between 7 and 18 years old at the time of joining.
• Those whose blood pressure has been confirmed as normal across three or more separate clinic visits — for children under 13, this means blood pressure below a certain level for their age and size; for those 13 and older, this means blood pressure below 120/80 mmHg (confirm exact thresholds with trial site).
• The child and their caregiver must both be willing and able to attend and complete all study visits and assessments.

Who may not be able to join:

• Children younger than 7 or older than 18 at the time of joining.
• Those whose blood pressure is elevated or meets the definition of high blood pressure across three or more separate clinic visits.
• Those with a past history of elevated or high blood pressure.
• Those currently taking any medication to lower blood pressure.
• Those with certain other serious health conditions, such as heart disease, kidney disease, blood vessel or inflammatory disease, or diabetes.
• Those who would be unable to complete the study assessments.
• Those who do not speak English or Spanish.
• Those who are currently pregnant.
• Those who are a Ward of the State (a child under government guardianship).
