Who might be able to join this trial:
For mothers:
- People who are already receiving preventive services at the time they are asked to take part in the study
- People who score 28 or higher on a PTSD symptom scale, or who meet the standard diagnostic criteria for PTSD (confirm with trial site)
- People who have at least one child between 1 and 10 years old
- People who are the legal guardian of that child and have both physical and legal custody
- People who can read, write, and speak English or Spanish
For clinicians:
- People who are currently or were previously hired as a Study Clinician or Clinical Director with the Safe Mothers, Safe Children program
Who may not be able to join:
For mothers:
- People who have had thoughts of suicide in the past month, or who have made a suicide attempt in the past year
- People who meet the criteria for a severe substance or alcohol use disorder (6 or more symptoms on a clinical assessment) and have not been without those symptoms for at least 3 months
- People who are currently experiencing symptoms of psychosis
- People who have a disability that affects communication, such as deafness
- People whose child (the child involved in the study) has a developmental condition that affects their thinking or physical abilities, such as autism
- People whose child has shown symptoms of, or has been diagnosed with, psychosis in the past 3 months
- People currently in a violent intimate partner or family relationship; or, if the relationship has ended, it must have ended at least 90 days ago with no plans to resume; or, if the relationship is ongoing but no violent incident has occurred, at least one year must have passed since the last incident (confirm specific circumstances with trial site)
For clinicians:
- There are no exclusion criteria for clinicians; however, clinicians will stop completing their study-related measures when their role with Safe Mothers, Safe Children ends or if they choose to withdraw
