Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 70 years old, of any gender
- People with a current diagnosis of PTSD (for the PTSD group)
- People who have experienced trauma but have no current mental health (psychiatric) disorders and no current PTSD (for the trauma-exposed healthy control group)
- People who have no history of trauma and no current mental health (psychiatric) disorders (for the healthy control group)
- People who are willing and able to give informed consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of a neurological disease, such as a tic disorder
- People with significant current thoughts of suicide or a history of suicidal behaviour in the past 6 months, or self-harming behaviour that is serious, frequent, or requires medical care
- People with a history of seizures or a significant head injury
- People with a history of a serious mental health (psychiatric) disorder
- People who have used antipsychotic medications within the past year
- People whose urine test shows current use of certain substances (note: a positive result for THC/cannabis may be reviewed by the lead researcher on a case-by-case basis — confirm with trial site)
- People who are pregnant (confirmed by a urine test)
- People who have metal implants or devices in their body that make MRI scans unsafe
- People considered to be at high risk of a difficult emotional or behavioural reaction to the study, or who are unable to understand the study procedures or the consent process
- People in the trauma-exposed healthy control group or healthy control group who have any current mental health (psychiatric) diagnosis
