Who might be able to join this trial:
This trial has three groups. People may be considered for one of the following groups:
Group A (Healthy volunteers):
- Adults aged 18 or older
- No previous history of cancer
- A history of normal blood counts and vital signs on routine check-ups
- Willing and able to provide informed consent
Group B (Early-stage blood cancer):
- Adults aged 18 or older
- A diagnosis of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) at an early stage, meaning slightly elevated white blood cells but no enlarged lymph nodes, spleen, or liver, and near-normal red blood cell and platelet counts
- Has not yet received any treatment for CLL
- Willing and able to provide informed consent
Group C (More advanced blood cancer):
- Adults aged 18 or older
- A diagnosis of CLL that has spread significantly, to the point where bone marrow is affected and blood cell counts are lowered
- Has not yet received any treatment for CLL
- Willing and able to undergo a bone marrow aspiration procedure (a sample taken from inside a bone)
- Willing and able to provide informed consent
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age
- People who are currently incarcerated
- People who are currently admitted to a psychiatric facility or living in an institution
- People with a history of diabetes
- People who are currently taking medication to lower blood sugar
- People who follow carbohydrate-restricting diets, such as Atkins, Vegan, or Ketogenic diets
- Women who are able to become pregnant
- People who are not able to make their own medical decisions
- People who are unable to read or write in English
- People who do not meet the inclusion criteria listed above
