Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are a male or female Veteran who was deployed to a combat zone after September 11, 2001.
  • You currently have full or significant symptoms of PTSD, as confirmed by a clinical assessment.
  • You have had at least 3 aggressive incidents in the past month (such as yelling, throwing objects, or hitting objects or people), based on a standard scale used in the study.
  • Your aggression is mainly impulsive (acting out suddenly without planning), rather than planned or premeditated, as determined by a specific assessment.
  • You have someone you live with — such as a partner, family member, or roommate aged 18 or older — who is willing to help confirm the number of aggressive incidents you report.
  • You agree not to change any psychiatric medications during the entire study period.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are currently having thoughts of suicide or self-harm within the past week.
  • You are currently having thoughts of harming a specific other person.
  • You are unable to complete written or self-report questionnaires.
  • You have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or a psychotic disorder.
  • You have changed any psychiatric medications within the 4 weeks before the study's starting assessment.
