Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are over 18 years old
- Your cancer has been confirmed by a tissue or cell sample to be squamous cell carcinoma
- Your cancer started in the nasopharynx (the upper part of the throat, behind the nose)
- Your cancer did not respond to, or got worse during, a previous platinum-based chemotherapy treatment
- Your cancer came back (in the same area or nearby lymph nodes) or spread to other parts of the body during or within 6 months after your last platinum-based chemotherapy
- You are generally well enough to carry out light activity and care for yourself (confirm with trial site what this means for you specifically)
- You are willing and able to give your consent to take part, attend all follow-up visits, and complete all planned procedures
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer has actively spread to the brain or spinal cord
- Your kidneys are not working well enough (based on a blood test result — confirm with trial site)
- Your liver is not working well enough, based on certain blood test results or low protein levels in the blood (confirm with trial site)
- Your blood counts are too low — including red blood cells, platelets, or infection-fighting white blood cells (confirm with trial site)
- Your heart is not pumping blood efficiently enough, based on a heart scan result
- You have an active autoimmune disease (where the immune system attacks the body), with some exceptions such as type 1 diabetes, an underactive thyroid treated with hormones, psoriasis, or albinism
- You have a mental health condition that, in the doctor's opinion, would prevent you from safely taking part in the trial
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You are a woman who could become pregnant, or a man whose partner could become pregnant, and you are unwilling or unable to use an approved form of contraception during the trial and for 5 months after the last treatment
- You have previously been treated with certain types of immunotherapy drugs that target specific immune checkpoints (anti-PD-1, PD-L1, PD-L2, or anti-ICOS — confirm with trial site)
- You are currently taking part in another clinical trial
- You have an active infection that is seriously affecting your health and needs treatment
- You have previously had a bone marrow or organ transplant
- You need to take immune-suppressing medicines, including steroids above a certain daily dose (confirm with trial site)
- You are known to have an immune deficiency condition, including HIV/AIDS
- You have received a live vaccine within the 28 days before joining the trial
- You have moderate to severe heart failure (confirm with trial site)
- You currently have another active cancer, or have had another cancer in the past (with some exceptions such as certain skin cancers, cervical cancer in situ, or prostate cancer after curative treatment — confirm with trial site)
- You have other health conditions or symptoms that, in the doctor's opinion, make it unsafe or unsuitable for you to participate
