Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are willing and able to give your consent to participate
  • You are 18 years old or older at the time of signing consent
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 23 and 30 at the screening visit
  • You have been diagnosed with fatty liver disease (NAFLD), confirmed by a liver biopsy or a specific type of imaging scan (such as an ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI) within the past 6 months
  • A special liver fat scan (called H-MRS) done during screening shows that at least 10% of your liver is made up of fat
  • Your blood tests at screening show you do not currently have Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have drunk heavily for 3 or more months in a row at any point in the last 5 years (more than 20g of alcohol per day for women, or more than 30g per day for men)
  • You have another known long-term liver condition, such as alcoholic liver disease, Hepatitis B or C, autoimmune hepatitis, or liver cancer, among others
  • You have Type 2 Diabetes that is currently or has previously been treated with insulin or a type of medication called sulfonylureas
  • You have taken prescription medications specifically to treat fatty liver disease in the past 6 months (taking Vitamin E is acceptable)
  • Your body weight has dropped by more than 10% in the 6 months before screening
  • You have been diagnosed with cirrhosis (serious liver scarring) or show signs of it on scans or physical examination
  • You have a history of a Child-Pugh score of 7 or higher, which is a measure of serious liver disease (confirm with trial site)
  • You have had a liver transplant, or are currently on a waiting list for one
  • You are known to be HIV positive
  • You have had or are planning weight-loss (bariatric) surgery, are taking prescription medication for weight loss, or are currently enrolled in a formal weight-loss program
  • You have a pacemaker, a metal clip in your brain, or another reason you cannot safely have an MRI scan
  • You have chronic kidney disease with a kidney function score (eGFR) below 60
  • You are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are currently breastfeeding (a pregnancy test will be required at screening for women who could become pregnant)
  • You have another serious long-term illness that the study doctor believes could make participation unsafe (confirm with trial site)
  • You have any other condition that the study doctor believes could make it difficult for you to complete the trial (confirm with trial site)
