Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who do not have inflammatory myopathy (muscle inflammation disease) but are suspected of having a muscle condition and need a blood test and muscle biopsy to confirm a diagnosis (Group 1)
- People who have already been diagnosed with inflammatory myopathy (Group 2)
- People who do not have systemic sclerosis (a connective tissue disease) but have been diagnosed with primary Raynaud's phenomenon (a condition affecting blood flow to the fingers and toes) (Group 3)
- People who have been diagnosed with early diffuse systemic cutaneous scleroderma, a form of systemic sclerosis affecting the skin (Group 4)
- People aged 18 or older, of any gender, with no upper age limit
Who may not be able to join:
For Groups 1 & 2 (muscle conditions):
- People for whom a muscle biopsy would be medically unsafe or not recommended
- People who have been diagnosed with a different neuromuscular disease (a disease affecting the nerves and muscles)
- People who have taken immunosuppressant or immunomodulator medications (drugs that affect the immune system) within the 3 months before joining the trial
- People with an unstable or poorly controlled heart or cardiovascular condition
For Groups 3 & 4 (scleroderma/Raynaud's):
- People for whom a skin biopsy would be medically unsafe or not recommended
- People whose capillaroscopy results (a test examining tiny blood vessels) or immune system test results suggest they may have scleroderma (confirm with trial site)
- People who are suspected of having scleroderma but have been diagnosed with a different connective tissue disease
- People who have been taking certain immunosuppressive medications — specifically corticosteroids at doses above 15mg, methotrexate, or mycophenolate mofetil — for more than one month
- People who have had an active cancer or a cancer diagnosis within the past 3 years (excluding certain non-melanoma skin cancers)
For everyone:
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
