Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have a bladder tumor, either newly diagnosed or one that has come back after previous treatment
- Your surgery involves a standard type of bladder tumor removal procedure (using either bipolar or monopolar equipment)
- Your kidney function blood test result is below a certain level (creatinine less than 2.2 mg/dl)
- Your red blood cell level (hematocrit) falls within a healthy range (between 35% and 52%)
- Your white blood cell count is at an acceptable level (at least 3,000 per microliter)
- Your platelet count falls within an acceptable range (between 75,000 and 500,000 per microliter)
- Your urine test shows no signs of infection
- Your liver function blood test results are within an acceptable range (no more than twice the upper normal limit)
- You are in good general health and able to carry out daily activities with little or no difficulty
- A scan of your urinary tract done within the last 3 months showed no signs of tumor in the upper urinary tract (kidneys or ureters)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had more than 2 low-grade (slow-growing) bladder tumors confirmed by biopsy in the last 18 months before your surgery
- You have had a high-grade (fast-growing) bladder tumor confirmed by biopsy in the last 9 months before your surgery
- Your tumor removal surgery was incomplete, or the tissue sample did not contain the required muscle layer (with some specific exceptions — confirm with trial site)
- You have received chemotherapy directly into the bladder or a treatment called BCG in the last 6 months before your surgery
- You have a history of a type of bladder cancer that does not originate from the bladder lining (non-urothelial bladder cancer)
- Your bladder cancer has grown into the bladder muscle (stage pT2 or muscle-invasive disease)
- You have a tumor present in the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body)
- You have had or currently have a cancer in the upper urinary tract (kidneys or ureters)
- You have previously had radiotherapy (radiation treatment) to the pelvic area
- You have been diagnosed with any other type of cancer within the last 5 years before your bladder surgery
