Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who had an elective (planned, non-emergency) procedure scheduled between July 1, 2022 and December 28, 2023
  • Adults aged 18 or older, of any gender
  • People who are having their first brain surgery (craniotomy, performed under general anaesthetic) for a suspected high-grade brain tumour (a type of aggressive brain tumour classified as WHO grade III or IV)

Who may not be able to join:

  • Children and people who are pregnant
  • People who have previously been diagnosed with a serious disorder affecting the adrenal glands (small glands near the kidneys that affect many body functions), whether overactive or underactive
  • People whose tumour is suspected to be a lower-grade tumour (grade I or II), a tumour involving the brainstem or optic tract, or a tumour that is not a primary brain tumour (for example, a tumour that has spread to the brain from elsewhere in the body)
  • People whose surgery is planned to be performed while they are awake
  • People who have any condition that means they cannot have an MRI scan after surgery
  • People who require a specific type of nerve monitoring during surgery (called motor evoked potential monitoring), or any other situation during surgery that limits which anaesthetic medicines can be used (confirm with trial site)
  • People whose brain tumour has come back after previous treatment (recurrent GBM)
