Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You have been recently diagnosed with kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma), confirmed either by a tissue biopsy or by scans showing the tumor growing over two check-ups (roughly 6–12 months apart)
  • Your main kidney tumor is larger than 3 cm, or the cancer has come back in the same area after a previous local treatment to destroy the tumor
  • A specialist urologist has determined that surgery is not safe for you medically, or you have chosen not to have surgery, and this decision was reviewed by a team of specialists
  • You are reasonably active and able to carry out daily activities (this is measured on a standard scale called ECOG, scoring 0–2 — confirm with trial site if unsure what this means for you)
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
  • You are able to understand English, or can participate with the help of a translator

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your main kidney tumor is larger than 20 cm
  • There is evidence that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body
  • You have previously had radiation therapy to the abdomen in an area near the kidney that would make this new treatment unsafe
  • You have a history of a medical condition that makes your body especially sensitive to radiation (confirm with trial site)
  • You have been diagnosed with another serious cancer (other than a common type of non-dangerous skin cancer) within the last 3 years
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
