Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older, of any sex
- People whose kidneys are working at a reduced but not critically low level, with a kidney function score (eGFR) between 15 and 45 ml/min/1.73m²
- People with a blood potassium level between 4.5 and 5.5 mEq/L
- People with a blood sugar control score (HbA1c) of 11% or below
- People with a blood pressure reading below 160/100 mmHg
- People who are registered as patients at the multidisciplinary nephrology (kidney) clinic in Winnipeg
- People who are able to communicate in English and sign a written consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a blood potassium level above 5.6 mEq/L, no urine output, current dialysis treatment, or a sudden serious kidney injury in the six months before screening
- People with chronic lung disease (COPD) who require ongoing oxygen support
- People with severe heart failure symptoms (classified as New York Heart Association Class 3 or 4), or who have had a heart, liver, or kidney transplant
- People who have had a heart attack or stroke within the last six months
- People who have difficulty swallowing or digestive issues that would prevent them from taking the study treatments
- People who are currently taking potassium-binding medication
- People with any other medical condition, uncontrolled illness, or additional health concern that the trial doctor believes could affect safety or the ability to follow the study requirements (confirm with trial site)
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
