Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults older than 18 years of age
- People who have been receiving hemodialysis (a type of kidney treatment that filters the blood) for at least 3 months
- People who receive hemodialysis three times per week
- People who receive a blood-thinning medication called heparin during their dialysis sessions
- People who are covered by French Social Security
- People who have given their consent to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People receiving a type of dialysis called hemodiafiltration (HDF)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People already taking part in another interventional research study
- People who are currently deprived of their liberty by a court or government decision
- Adults who are under legal protection, such as guardianship or curatorship
- People who have previously had a serious reaction to heparin called HIT (heparin-induced thrombocytopenia)
- People with bleeding or clotting disorders, whether inherited or developed over time
- People with certain active diseases affecting blood or other organs, including myeloma, Waldenström disease, or active solid cancers
- People taking a type of blood pressure medication called ACE inhibitors
- People who may need a blood transfusion during the study period
- People whose hemoglobin (a measure of red blood cells) has not been stable — specifically, where the average level in the previous month was below 10 g/dL or above 12 g/dL
- People who have an active infection or significant inflammation at the time of joining (measured by a blood marker called C-reactive protein being above 25 mg/L)
- People who need nutrition given directly into the bloodstream during dialysis sessions
- People who are expected to be hospitalised or have surgery during the study period
- People whose vascular access (the point where blood is taken in and out during dialysis, such as an arteriovenous fistula or graft) does not allow sufficient blood flow during treatment (confirm with trial site)
- People using a catheter for dialysis, or a single-needle method on an arteriovenous fistula, on the day of their screening session
- People for whom more than 4,000 mL of fluid is planned to be removed during the dialysis session on the day of screening
