Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are veterans aged 18 years or older
- People who have been diagnosed with at least one substance use disorder (a condition where use of alcohol or drugs causes significant problems in a person's life), according to standard diagnostic guidelines (DSM-5)
- People who have been diagnosed with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), according to standard diagnostic guidelines (DSM-5)
- People who have been approved to receive substance use disorder treatment at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System
Who may not be able to join:
- Veterans who currently meet the diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia, schizophrenia-related disorders, or bipolar disorder or mania that is not being managed with medication, as assessed by a specific screening tool called the QuickSCID-5
- People who are currently considered to be at risk of harming themselves or others in a way that requires a more intensive level of care
- Veterans who have completed a structured, evidence-based therapy program specifically designed for PTSD within the past 6 months
- People who have difficulties that would make it hard to complete written activities or study assessments — for example, being unable to read or write (confirm with trial site for how this is assessed)
